In the fall of 2009 some of our guests wrote letters about their experiences. Below are some excerpts from those letters.
"I want to extend my deepest, warmest, most sincere and honest thank you. Without your help, without your kindness, and without your passion to help others, I may very well still be a homeless alcoholic and desperate drug addict with nowhere to sleep at night."
–Tom
"I had been in and out of Prison and jail all my Adult Life. Because of drugs and Alcohol I had also been homeless most of the time. When I got out of Prison in May, I joined the access to Recovery treatment at the Gathering Inn... Through this wonderful program, and staying at the Inn I have turned my life around... I just couldn't begin to tell you on a simple page how much this shelter has helped me. They fed and clothed me when my life was at its worst!"
–Steve
"I am an alcoholic that has lost everything except my wife. I lost my house, car, friends, and pushed my family away from me. I lost my self respect, will for life; I just didn't care anymore. Then I found The Gathering Inn... I have now gone through a 16 week drug and alcohol program and graduated. The Gathering Inn has helped me get self respect and a great love for life now. I am currently looking for work and housing... I am also starting to see my family more now that I am sober. There just are not enough good things to say about the Gathering Inn."
–Dennis
"I have been staying at the Interim Care Program house and it is a blessing. It has been a relaxed atmosphere, conducive to healing up. It is clean and up to par... calling the "med-van" arranges for a ride to the medical appointments. It feels like all my needs are met here at the house."
–Blaney
"After losing our house... with nowhere else to go we saw an add for The Gathering Inn at a food closet in Auburn. To get on a bus and go way down to this big city was pretty scary, but being homeless was 10 times more frightening. So cell phone to cell phone we had a sweet friendly voice lead us in on a bus to the front gate of The Gathering Inn.
The kindness and understanding of the open arms we felt was Awesome. Then we took advantage of some of the programs they offered and because we did we are now closer to God than we have ever been and no longer homeless. Sober 9 months with our own apartment we give back all we can... All we can say is ,'They Saved our lives!'"
–Theresa
"...I had just lost my job drinking and drugging until I reached a state of depression that I've never known. I was headed for jail or worse. Now I'm still at the Inn but much better. I've completed a substance abuse program on campus that's offered to all that are interested... And for me personally they've helped me in so many other areas of my life there just aren't words to express my gratitude..."
